Deschute's Mirror Pond Pale Ale

MIRROR POND PALE ALE
BREWERY: Deschutes Brewery (Bend, OR) | STYLE: American Pale Ale | ABV: 5.0%

If we had to describe the state of San Francisco during winter it would have been drenched. If you live for stormy winters, that’s fabulous. Us, not so much. We appreciate the changes in seasons but we will never get used to them… which is why we would never move to Grand Forks, North Dakota and will never have the desire to check into the ICE HOTEL that everyone is raving about. If you couldn’t tell, we were born and raised in, what Wikipedia would call, the warm-summer Mediterranean climates of California's deserts. There, the months are dry and the months are hot. What is rain?
So, yeah... San Francisco doesn't get as cold as Grand Forks and our apartment has never gotten anywhere near the extremes of the Ice Hotel... but this winter it was pretty darn chilly and the rain was serious. Now that winter is officially gone, we want to forget about those grey months and embrace the sunnier months to come. For celebrating this new season we've been all about the MIRROR POND PALE ALE.

What makes this beer great for Spring is that it's fairly light and not too bitter. A nice, bold stout was perfect for cozying up in neighborhood bars but these sunnier days call for more moments outside! And since playing outdoors doesn't always involve activities where drinking is the main event, we want a drink with enough hops to match these Spring vibes but are understated enough so it doesn't overpower your tastebuds.
The Mirror Pond Pale Ale fits this profile perfectly because there are enough hints of citrus and spice to keep things interesting. This drink has more of a malty side than what you would expect in an American Pale Ale, but the hops in this beer still dominate making a perfect blend of sweet and tart flavors. So, although this beer may be on the lighter side, you will not be disappointed. If you don't believe us, just look at that smile on Milan's face!
