Calicraft's Cali Cöast Kölsch

BREWERY: Calicraft Brewing (Walnut Creek, CA) | STYLE: Kölsch | ABV: 5.2%

We get it. We're totally obsessed with kölsch beer and there are many people that simply aren't.

"Blegh! They're just... blegh!" is what our friend, Annaliese, had to say when we were casually sipping on FORT POINT's KSA this past weekend (another kölsch that we'd highly recommend.) "I don't know! Maybe it's because I can't fit them into a category!"

However brash, our girl has a point: this style of beer might not resonate with many because it doesn't fit into either of the typical two beer categories, ale and lager. Huh. Now, isn't that funny? A beer that is neither ale or lager! It's fermented with ale yeast but then finished in cold temperatures and, for our fellow beer geeks out there, you'll know that this method of brewing is très rare. (And for those of you that didn't know, we'll leave the nitty-gritty explanations to our friends at Beer & Brewing Mag HERE.)

Anywho, we're choosing to forget about the rest of the world and it's opinions because the kölsh is a type of beer that we can shamelessly get down with. Labels, what!? That's right, we like our beers the way we like ourselves, in their own categories. And the kölsch-style beer that pairs best with our free-loving spirits is CALICRAFT BREWING COMPANY'S Cali Cöast.

Being a light beer with an IBU of only fifteen, this beer doesn't bite much. Instead, it's bright and crisp characteristics give off more mellow and easy-going qualities, perfect for matching any California vibe. And for a day hanging out cliff-side along the San Francisco Bay, we loved having a beer that was both refreshing and easy drinking.

Being the great "German-meets-West" brew that the Cali Cöast is, Calicraft Brewing paired traditional German hops with Northern California barley to create plenty of spicy and fruity notes.  So, this guy may not be high on the IBU chart, but it's anything but flavorless. With a nice malt front and a lemony finish, this beer leaves us feeling pleasantly surprised and rejuvenated.

If you couldn't tell from the photo above, this beer jumps out of the bottle itching to be served! It's so good, even the beer knows it 😏  And when it pours out into a glass, it dons a beautiful golden hue with a foamy white head. Who wouldn't want to drink something that looks so alluring!? Oh, and don't let Laura's face dissuade you, she was just as excited to drink the Cali Cöast kölsch as I was :)

If you're all about easy drinking and Cali vibes, this Cali Cöast is the beer for you. For finding this bodacious brew, we've been all about using the website TAPHUNTER for finding it's nearest locations. The great thing about this site is that you can use it  for any beer and any city from San Francisco to Atlanta, Georgia! So don't hesitate! So unless if you don't own any form of technology (which, then, how are you reading this blog?), cruise on over to TapHunter and find yourself a Cali Cöast!
