Scrimshaw Pilsner

BREWERY: North Coast Brewing Co. (Fort Bragg, CA) | STYLE: Pilsner | ABV: 4.4%

Hey-o hey! Recognize us? It's been awhile.

By now, many of you probably know that we enjoy taking the occasional blogger-break. It's not a good habit and we're sure that this doesn't make us the 'best bloggers' in the world. But a full plate of responsibilities meant having to do some re-prioritizing... but we're not as responsible as we're leading on here. It was my boss that had to sit me down and say, "First school, then work and then the blog." And with all the stuff that went down within the last few months, there wasn't much time left for blogging. For starters, I jumped into a full-time internship and graduated from college with a degree in economics (yahoo!). The internship is still going and I love it, but working 9 to 6 takes some getting used to and lately I come home feeling absolutely pooped! Laura started her last semester of school and summer session, which we're quickly realizing is no joke. We also can't forget to mention the handful of family emergencies she experienced within such a short period of time.

...but as always, I digress. The photos you're looking at were taken the day after my 24th birthday. We were a tad hungover (the fact that I don't need to say 'severely' must mean that we're really growing up) so we opted for something light: NORTH COAST BREWING CO.'S Scrimshaw Pilsner.

This isn't exactly a beer that makes us want to shout from the rooftops, but it's still our go-to pilsner. Before you craft beer snobs roll your eyes, here's why:

  1. We're big fans of North Coast Brewing (OLD RASPUTIN RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT, anyone?)
  2. You can buy a case of this and not worry about people not drinking it. Trust... we've done studies ;)
  3. If you're in Northern California, you can find this beer anywhere

Also, drinking a beer that was named in honor of old seafarers made perfect sense for this day. After all, we were hanging out at an old military base... on the beach (do you see our logic here?) Using Munich malt with Hallertauer and Tettnang hops, this beer has a very mild hop presence with an overall crisp feel. Perfect for any beach day and, in my opinion, the best way to start off my 24th year -- clean and understated.
